SMHI launches new web service for climate scenarios

See climate scenarios interactively displayed as maps and diagrams. SMHI's web service provides easy to use information to the general public as well as to decision makers.

The new web service presents and describes results of climate research conducted at the Rossby Centre, SMHI, with the aim to provide easy to use informaton to the general public as well as to decision makers.

Climate scenarios are displayed interactively as maps and diagrams where the user can select between different geographical regions, GHG emissions and variables. Two RCP scenarios are represented, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5, as well as the old SRES scenario A1B as a reference. Variables available are temperature, precipitation and a range of climate indexes. All results show the ensemble mean and spread based on results from 9 global climate models which have been downscaled to higher resolution using the Rossby Centre regional climate model RCA.

Using the webpage is straight forward and it can be used ‘live’ during presentations where the presenter quickly can demonstrate the effect of different scenarios and display the results at different geographical scales, e.g. for Sweden or a specific county within Sweden. This page is part of the SMHI web service for future climate which provides information and links for several aspects of climate change and adaptation.
