Greetings from the polar expedition ARTofMELT 2023

As the ice-breaker Odin set sail on the 7th of May, MERGE-researchers Luisa Ickes, Lovisa Nilsson and Nicolas Faure were on it!

The purpose of the expedition is to get to the Arctic Ocean at the beginning of the melting season. The researchers within ARTofMELT (Atmospheric rivers and the onset of sea ice melt) want to find out, among other things, when the ice starts to melt and what processes are important for the melting.

The expedition is led by the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat, with 38 researchers from 19 universities and 10 different nations on board. MERGE is represented by Luisa Ickes (Chalmers), Lovisa Nilsson (Lund university) and Nicolas Faure (University of Gothenburg). The three of them sent us some postcards from the expedition:
